I adore this moment because look at how protective and lovely she is with Kate because she knows this kind of atmosphere isn’t the kind of thing Kate is used to. She subtly pulls Kate closer the minute she spots soldiers eyeing Kate in a kind of relaxed, swagger way that makes Kate smile (she loves it…look at her smile). Then, she holds Kate around the waist and asks her if she is okay. You just know if Kate said something like “nope, I hate it”, Betty would have been “peace out, Gladys, we are leaving.” She wants Kate to feel comfortable, safe and protected in her new life. How could you not fall for that? Plus, you know, the swag…
