50 Favorite OTPs: Laura Roslin/Bill Adama - Battlestar Galactica

Roslin: I love you.Adama: About time.

One of television’s greatest and most surprising romances is also one of the most satisfying and adult. You have no idea how rare it is see adults act like adults on television, but that is just one of the things I love about Roslin and Adama. Brought together by the destruction of their universe, Roslin and Adama had one of the best and most realistically developed romances in TV land. At it’s heart, their relationship was all about respect even when they were disagreeing on just about everything. They brought balance to the world and to each other when the end of the world was upon them. They were partners, Space Parents, for the tossed and tattered remnants of humanity and they took this responsibility seriously. They were both headstrong and stubborn as all hell, but once they got passed each other’s gruff exteriors, they began to rely on each other. That mutual respect and admiration blossomed as they began to trust each other more and more. Every little moment they let their guard down, they fell more in love. It happened bit by bit, so slowly, they nor we knew it was happening. But once he became clear they couldn’t live without each other and they admitted how in love they were, it was felt like the most natural revelation in the world, like finding out the sky is blue. It is elemental. That is what their love was … so basic and uncomplicated it is just true. Of course, there is a bit of tragedy to their romance … they would have never met if not for the end of the world and they probably would have never fallen in love if they hadn’t be forced to be humanity’s parents. Their romance was awash in loss, so it almost had to end in loss. But I would imagine that Roslin wouldn’t have lived her last years any other way. In another universe, in another life, they built that cabin the woods to live out the rest of their days, but in this one, they loved the hell out of each other while they could. That bit of happiness is more than most of us get.

I want these people to be my friends. I’ll even forgive the teal colour scheme of the outfits.

saunteringvaguelydownwards asked: StarbuckHow I FEEEEEL about this character
One of the best characters in sci-fi. I feel like this is how a character archetype should be done. We all know that they were aiming for “female badass” and if they just quit there, I think many would have been satisfied, but they coloured her character with so many wonderful things that she wasn’t just a bad ass viper pilot, but she was so much more. Even though there are times when her character could be a bit ridiculous, she never stopped being completely human to me. I loved that. All the people I ship romantically with this characterLee Adama, but I say that with some hesitation because, really, these two were the Wonder Twins and were better as pseudo brother/sister than they ever were as lovers. SAM! SIX!My non-romantic OTP for this characterHelo. I really wished their friendship would have grown more during the course of the series, instead of kind of dying somewhere around season two when they stopped having scenes together. My unpopular opinion about this character
I liked how her character arc ended, even if it left me a bit unsatisfied. As I said when the finale aired: “As for Starbuck disappearing, I will admit I hated it when I watched it, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked it. For all the talk about how Baltar was Jesus, in the end, it is Starbuck who really was the savior, who rose from the dead to guide us to the promised land. Maybe she was the dying leader all along? Maybe what Pythea meant to say was “dead leader”. Also can I just say … Adama/Lee/Kara = Father/Son/Holy Ghost.”One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
I wish they would have explored her relationship with Roslin more. There was a lot they could have explored with Starbuck’s parental issues. I think she desperately wanted Roslin’s approval deep down, but I would have liked to have seen that more on screen. Also, any type of relationship with Caprica Six would have been nice.
