You’re all humming live wires under your killing clothes
Get over here, I wanna kiss your skinny throat
You’re a wasp nest, you’re a wasp nest
YES PLEASE!

Not 24 hours after TVLine reported on the strong possibility of renewal, TNT officially announced that Southland will be back for a 10-episode Season 4.
“Southland has been acknowledged by many critics as one of the sharpest, most entertaining and most authentic dramas on television today,” says Michael Wright, EVP/head of programming for TNT. “John Wells, Chris Chulack and their teams created a brilliant roller coaster ride this season, with countless riveting scenes and unforgettable character arcs. We are extremely proud to have Southland on TNT and to bring it back for a fourth season.”

BEST DRAMA ON TV. BEST COP SHOW ON TV. EVERYONE DESERVES A FUCKING EMMY. GOOD GOD!
TNT, please renew this show. This was one of the finest hours of TV I’ve seen in a long time. Southland has this magical way of delivering emotional/storyline pay-off in a way that seems completely natural and not in any way melodramatic or contrived, even when it probably could be those two things in the hands of less talented writers/actors/director. It feels real. It looks real. It’s just real. My only quibble with this season ender is that I feel like Lydia Adams got the short end of the stick. All the other characters had some meaningful, meaty character moments (hell, even Dewey got a moment), but Lydia’s big breakthrough is that she got laid.

“All cops know, and probationary officer Ben Sherman is beginning to understand, that sometimes you can’t think about it. You just gotta make that leap.”
— Southland, Graduation Day (3x10)

Ben: You’re falling asleep in the car. You have a problem. You need to take care of it.
John: I told you, I took too many!
Ben: John. You have a problem. Look, in nine days I’m off probation. You can find another boot to torture. Until then, don’t bring your personal bullshit to work. Your back acting up, call in sick.
