#Erica Durance #your face!

50 Girlcrushes of 2011: Erica DuranceSmallville, I miss your weekly dose of comic insanity that was entertaining even when it was completely terrible and one of the reasons I miss it so is because I miss Erica Durance’s Lois Lane. After years of watching the character grow from a bossy, rude teen to a mature, giving, but still kick-ass reporter, I can safely say that Durance is my quintessential Lois Lane. She just is Lois in a way that no else was. Granted, I do realize that having six years with a character as opposed to, say, a two hour film is an unfair comparison, but, what the hell, I’m going to make it anyway. My list. My rules. Durance really zeroed in on the heart of the character, beneath all the bossiness and toughness, was a girl in search of a home and a family, a place to belong. Being the daughter of a general and living her childhood as an army nomad, Lois had little time and patience to develop any real attachments even though she longed for them. Little did she know that the moment she came to Smallville in search of her cousin Chloe that she would stumble upon the home she longed for all her life. And it WAS instantly a home. She was living with Clark Kent for pretty much the moment she entered his life and she has been living with him on and off ever since. Clark Kent was always there for Lois and cared even if he declared to anyone who would listen that she was just the worst. But she wasn’t, she was everything that he needed. Lois Lane is every part Clark Kent’s equal and she never was anything less or more. That is what makes her the best. In season ten, as Clark’s destiny slowly took shape, she was there for him even more. She was the supportive partner and she would love him forever. The way Durance plays Lois Lane in love makes me want to write love songs and sing about rainbows, sunshine and cake frosting. I miss Lois. I miss Erica as Lois. She will be in a new Canadian show soon where she plays a doctor. I am hoping it get picked up for a run in the States.

50 Favorite OTPs: Clark Kent/Superman/Lois Lane - Superman Universe

Lois: I wanted these vows to be perfect, but perfection’s a hard thing to get your hands on. But life is meant to be a little messy. And when it comes to love, I think it’s like my dad always said about the Army. “You only sign up if it’s the only thing you could ever imagine doing.” And, Clark, I can not imagine spending a moment of my life without you. So I promise that I will always have your back, as you will always have mine. You’re my best friend, you’re my home, and you’re my true love. And I am yours and will be forever.Clark: I, Clark Kent, take you, Lois Lane, to be my companion… forever. With you by my side, I will never be alone. Though the world sees a strong and independent woman, I’ve never known someone with such gentle grace and more pure heart. When I’ve been lost, you’ve always been there to bring me back. So on this day, at this moment, I pledge the rest of my life to you. You’ve always believed in me, and I believe in you. And when you believe in someone, it’s not for a minute or just for now. It’s forever.

I love every single incarnation of Clark and Lois (well, Superman Returns was lacking, but we’ll just forget it exists). When Superman turns back time in Superman: The Movie to save Lois Lane’s life, it was one of the greatest moments of in my shipping life. For Clark/Superman, a world without Lois Lane is a world that should not be, so, of course, he must break the laws of time and space, defy the very laws of the universe to bring her back. There were no other options. That is the definition of epic love. When I think of Clark and Lois nowadays, however, I immediately think of Smallville’s version of their relationship simply because it is the most realized, most satisfying version of their love story. Clark and Lois’s relationship makes much more sense because we’ve witnessed their journey for six years from bickering frenemies to good friends to soulmates and that journey was wonderfully rewarding. Smallville had the luxury of knowing that Clark and Lois were endgame and had six years to develop a relationship. When Lois came to Smallville, her passionate intensity were grating to Clark who was used to women who were less … abrasive. But through the years, he came to rely on her (brutal) honesty and her ability to cut through the crap. He never felt the need to hide around her or pretend to be something he wasn’t. For Lois, Clark brought some much needed stability to her life. Over the years, he was always there, whatever she needed and didn’t run when others might have cut their losses and left. When season eight finally rolled around and their growing attraction started to boil over, it felt right, it felt earned. There was no one else for Clark than Lois. There was no one else for Lois than Clark. And together, they could conquer anything.
