Kate Andrews & Her Hands
One of the things I love about Bomb Girls is the little things it does that one may not notice on the first viewing, but becomes apparent once one watches the show a few times (third rewatch in five months… not obssessed). So, let’s discuss Kate Andrews and her hands. The very first time we see Kate, her father is crushing her hand after he notices her noticing a couple of lovers, a signal to us that Kate hasn’t had an easy life. We know by the way her father handles her that things haven’t been daisies and buttercups for poor Kate. The first time Betty touches Kate’s hand, just after her mishap at the factory, it is aggressive, assertive and strong, but encouraging .. every bit what Betty feels for Kate in that moment. The last time Betty touches Kate’s hand, at the bar after she confesses how much she likes her, it is tender, warm, loving and almost a reverence, an admission that Kate owns Betty completely … every bit what Betty feels for Kate in that moment. We can tell a lot about Kate Andrews by the way people treat her hand.
